Fun and Engaging First Fry Sight Words Worksheets

If you’re like me, you know how precious those in-between moments are—like the drive to school, or the wait after an afterschool class. That’s when we sneak in a little sight word practice. I keep a small stack of flashcards in the car, and we go through them with both kids whenever we get the chance. It’s quick, it’s casual, and it works.

The first 100 Fry sight words include everyday words like the, you, said, and it—words that show up constantly in beginner books. The tricky part is that a lot of them don’t follow the usual phonics rules. So instead of sounding them out, kids need to recognize them instantly—which takes repetition and exposure.

Why Fry Sight Words Matter

Once kids master these high-frequency words, reading gets smoother and faster. Mine now finish the sentence before I can even read it—a big change from when I had to sound out every word for them!

That’s why I started making worksheets to go along with our car practice. Something fun and purposeful they can do at home to reinforce what we’re reviewing on the go.

What’s in those Worksheets?

The goal is to make learning these sight words feel easy and enjoyable, simple yet content-rich.

Some of our favorite activities:

  • Trace and write – builds muscle memory.
  • Read and color – adds a bit of fun.
  • Cut and paste – gives those wiggly hands something to do while learning.
  • Mini books – fun to assemble and even better to read aloud later!

I’m looking forward to adding even more fun worksheets and activities to help your kids master sight words. Remember, learning can happen anytime and anywhere—just a little practice goes a long way. Keep it fun, and you’ve got this!
